How would you like to have a silky-smooth shave? How can you get rid of ingrown hair and prevent it from happening in the first place.

Isn’t it discomforting to have those raised red, bumps, preventing you from enjoying the beach or even a nice date. Unfortunately, ingrown hairs are real and often painful. So, we decided to give you a few tips on how to prevent these annoying bumps from appearing in the first place.

What is an ingrown hair?

Hair usually grows straight up leaving follicles by the area where it exits the skin. However, in the case of an ingrown hair, it does not grow straight up. It grows all turned around and go back into the skin. When this happens, it causes reactions like redness, swelling, even infection that can produce pus.

What causes ingrown hair?

Many things can cause ingrown hairs. Believe it or not, the texture of your hair can be one of these causes.

Unfortunately, ingrown hair happens more commonly on people with curly hair, as curly hair tends to easily be redirected and grow back into the skin, rather than growing up and out.

Normally ingrown hair bumps happen more often on the bikini line than anywhere else because pubic hair is usually coarser and curlier.

We know that you cannot control the texture of your hair, but you can decide which method to use to remove the hair. If you are used to shave, try to prevent from doing it. This practice can be a bit more problematic than waxing, particularly when you shave super close to the skin.

When the hair is shaved very close to the skin, it tends to leave a sharp edge that can easily reenter the skin and cause ingrown hairs. And when you decide to tweeze, especially along your bikini line, it can cause bumps because it leaves fragments of hair under the skin surface and leads to inflammation. By using the “Hair eraser” this can definitely be prevented.

How can ingrown hair be prevented?

If you decide to keep on shaving, just make sure to do so in the direction of the hair. And if you are looking to get a very close shave, going against the grain may allow for a closer shave. However, you must remember that the closer the shave, the easier it will be for the hair to curl back into the skin.

Another important point not to disregard is the choice of the blade to use. Always make sure that the blade in use, is new and sharp. Because, whenever you use dull blades, you tend to scrap the skin, increasing the likelihood of irritation and ingrown hairs.

No matter what method you choose to remove the hair, exfoliating regularly is a perfect way to help preventing dead skin cells from blocking the hair follicles.

In the market, there is a wonderful tool that will help you remove hair in a very safe and practical way. It is called “the Hair Eraser”. It is an easy to use, safe, non-invasive tool that is appropriate and helpful for all.

So, how can you get rid of ingrown hairs?

Most dermatologists advise against tweezing or even popping ingrown hair bumps. They warn against both methods because of the likelihood of creating infections.

So, here are a few other suggestions:

  1. Instead of tweezing or popping the ingrown hair bumps, apply a warm compress to the area in which you will be removing the hair. The heat will help soften the skin.
  2. Try exfoliating the skin, over and around the area to be worked on.
  3. Clean the area with a washcloth. Use a very soft-bristled toothbrush over the area in very soft circular motions for a few times. This procedure will help to get rid of the dead skin cells so the ingrown hair is more likely to emerge.
  4. Another suggestion, is to use a chemical exfoliating solution, containing salicylic acid, specifically conceived for ingrown hair treatment.

And a last very important tip: avoid tight clothing and synthetic fabrics whenever dealing with very inflamed, painful ingrown hair bumps. The rubbing caused by polyester underwear, leggings made with nylon, skinny jeans further worsen the irritation.

We really believe these easy tips can be helpful. And if you are looking for an eco-friendly way of getting rid of unwanted hair check the hair eraser that we propose.
